Meet Dr. Brandi Newsom: Building Strong Foundations for Early Learning

Since April 2024, Dr. Brandi Newsom has led the work of growing young learners at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary. With years of experience in both the classroom and leadership roles, she brings a calm, student-centered presence to the school and leads with a strong belief that relationships come before rigor. For Dr. Newsom, the work of early education is about helping students master the fundamentals of lifelong learning.

Dr. Newsom grew up in Paragould, Arkansas, where she attended public school from kindergarten through graduation. One of her most vivid memories from childhood is the steady comfort of daily read-alouds after recess, a simple routine that shaped her early love for school. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State University, later completing master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and School Counseling, a Specialist in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She also holds a National Board Certification in Literacy.

Before joining Gravette, Dr. Newsom served in a wide range of roles including teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. She leads with empathy and realism for the work of teachers, never forgetting what it feels like to grade papers after a long day or prepare for a Monday when the kids come back extra energized from the weekend.

Since stepping into her role at Glenn Duffy, Dr. Newsom found joy in the strong sense of community among the students, staff, and families of Gravette. Dr. Newsom says she leads for the child who hasn’t found their voice, the teacher holding everything together with grace, and the family doing their best. She approaches each day with the understanding that the future is always being shaped through daily moments, and that schools help kids develop character in addition to academics.

Dr. Newsom lives with her husband, Kevin, a firefighter, and their mini golden doodle named Sunday. They have three children who are all currently in college. Dr. Newsom has a solid foundation in small-town life and that background continues to guide how she leads, listens, and serves.

Dr. Brandi Newsom's influence shapes the way students experience school and how teachers feel supported in their roles. As we continue highlighting the staff who strengthen Gravette from within, we invite you to join us in recognizing Dr. Newsom’s efforts and the difference she makes every day. Thank you, Dr. Newsom, for the guidance and heart you bring to our district.
