Leader in Me: 7 Habits of Happy Kids Welcome to our monthly Leader in Me newsletter!

Through the Leader in Me framework, we aim to empower every student with leadership and life skills. By fostering a culture of collaboration, responsibility, and personal growth, we ensure that every child realizes their unique potential.

Student Takeaways Habit of Focus: Sharpen the Saw Regularly renew and balance your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Take Care of My Body: Eat right, exercise, and get enough rest.
Make Time for Learning: Engage in creativity and activities that help me grow.
Enjoy Relationships: Connect with family and friends to stay balanced and happy.

At-Home Activity Have a "Family Wellness Day." Plan a day to do activities that refresh the mind, body, and soul, such as a walk in nature, reading time, or a family yoga session. Discuss how self-care makes everyone more effective and happy.

Buddy Day 2026: End of the Year Celebration!

Our annual Buddy Day event will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, conducted in a fun, carnival-type atmosphere! There will be approximately 20 stations on the playground and inside the "Lion Theater" in the gym for students' entertainment. Homeroom teachers will divide the students into "buddies" for a non-competitive morning of cooperation and games. This event will take place rain or shine!

Date: Friday, May 8, 2026
Location: GDE Playground & Lion Theatre (Gym)
Times:
- Kindergarten & 1st Grade (Miller, Nelson, Ortiz): 8:45 AM - 10:45 AM
- 1st Grade (Hall, Freeland, Vire) & 2nd Grade: 11:45 AM - 1:45 PM (Note: Times may vary slightly by homeroom)

Important Information:

Dress Code: Wear comfortable, quick-drying clothes (we will have water stations!). Please help us honor the dress code—no swimwear. We encourage students to wear their pre-ordered Physical Education Apparel so they can "twin" with their buddy!
Footwear: Comfortable athletic shoes are recommended. Students can wear flip-flops or sandals, but they will be asked to remove their shoes before entering the bouncy houses, so please make sure shoes are properly identified.
What to Bring: Please bring a water bottle! Hats and sunscreen are highly encouraged. We ask that you apply sunscreen to your child before school.
Parent Attendance: Parents and guardians are welcome to attend! However, please keep in mind that this event is strictly for K-2 students who attend Glenn Duffy Elementary. Please make other arrangements for siblings or non-GDE students.

Donations Needed! If you would like to donate specific items (sunscreen, face paint, fingernail polish, individually wrapped healthy snacks, juice pouches, or bottled water), please use the Buddy Day Sign-Up Genius link sent via Remind. We will also gladly accept monetary donations to purchase these items if that is more convenient for you.
