Student Spotlight
Each week, we'll shine a spotlight on two students in order to get to know them a little better. This fun feature is a great way to celebrate our students and share their unique interests, hobbies, and personalities!
Brady
Brady's favorite subject is social studies. Outside of school, he enjoys playing football and Call of Duty. When he grows up, Brady hopes to become a police officer.
Hope
Hope's favorite subject is social studies because she finds it the easiest. Outside of school, she enjoys basketball, F1 racing, church activities, and spending time with animals. When she grows up, Hope hopes to run an animal reserve or animal shelter.
Don’t Forget!
7th grade will have 2 REWARD TRIPS each year! Qualifying for these reward trips will depend on 3 simple things:
Attendance – Maximum two tardies per class or 9 absences per semester.
Grades – No failing classes and meet Book Challenge expectations.
Behavior – No ISS or OSS, no more than 9 total behavior logs per semester.
Important Reminder
HAC is the Home Access Center where you can check your child's attendance and grades in real time. Remember to check HAC regularly to confirm that all work is completed and graded.
If you don't have your login info, please email the secretary at [Contact Information for Jodie Dueker] and request your individualized login info.

Academic Focus
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week in Language Arts, students took the first of three MAZE assessments with Miss Lou. We also learned about S.E. Hinton, the author of The Outsiders, and explored background information on 1960s fashion, cars, culture, and historical events to prepare for the novel. Students practiced vocabulary related to the story, and some classes have already started reading while others will begin on Monday. Ask your student how old S.E. Hinton was when she started writing the novel—it’s a fun fact they should be able to share!
Students should be reading every day!
Math
In math this week, we continued exploring rational numbers and practiced adding integers. Students are learning strategies for working with both positive and negative numbers.
Science
Students just completed their first lab experience, and their work ethic was fantastic! Next week, we will review metric measurement conversions, and afterward, we will focus on the steps of scientific inquiry.
Social Studies
In social studies, students are learning about the arrival of Europeans in North America. They will also be expected to know the names of the original 13 colonies and locate them on a map.
Electives
KeyCode
In KeyCode, we are finishing up the top row of keys and will soon begin working on the bottom row. Students are discovering that with consistent practice, typing accurately becomes easier and helps set them up for long-term success.
Ukulele
In Ukulele, students are improving their skills with the G and G7 chords, and some may even have the opportunity to move ahead to the next lesson a bit earlier. Advanced students will be working on more challenging Gravity Falls tabs.
Musical Theater
Next week in Musical Theater, students will focus on scene work, practicing script reading, and creating characters using the acting skills they've learned so far.
Podcasting
In Podcasting, students will be crafting and recording their podcast introductions and deciding on a jingle to represent their brand.
Art
Students have been working on using the Artistic Thinking Process to create art. The process includes finding inspiration, developing ideas, creating, reflecting, and sharing. Reflection and sharing happens throughout the process as they ask questions and discuss ideas with their table group. Groups also presented their sculpture to the class. They did a great job! Ask your student about the paper sculptures they helped to create and to see a picture of it. Next week we will begin learning the elements of art and principles of design artists use when creating. Thank you for letting me get to know your student.
