Student Spotlight
Each week, we'll shine a spotlight on two students in order to get to know them a little better. This fun feature is a great way to celebrate our students and share their unique interests, hobbies, and personalities!
Zach
Zach's favorite subject in school is math because he enjoys working with numbers. His favorite sport is football because he likes the challenge and physical competition. When he grows up, Zach hopes to become a lawyer.
Ta’Viea
Ta'Viea's favorite subject in school is math because she is good at it. Her favorite hobby is showing cattle because she loves it and enjoys spending time with her animals. In the future, Ta'Viea hopes to become a veterinarian.
Don’t Forget!
7th grade will have 2 REWARD TRIPS each year! Qualifying for these reward trips will depend on 3 simple things:
Attendance – Maximum two tardies per class or 9 absences per semester.
Grades – No failing classes and meet Book Challenge expectations.
Behavior – No ISS or OSS, no more than 9 total behavior logs per semester.
Important Reminder
HAC is the Home Access Center where you can check your child's attendance and grades in real time. Remember to check HAC regularly to confirm that all work is completed and graded.

Academic Focus
English Language Arts (ELA)
Students are studying the character traits of the main characters in The Outsiders. We have finished reading the first four chapters and took a quiz over Chapters 1–3. Next week, we'll continue following Ponyboy and Johnny's adventures in Windrixville!
Students should be reading every day!
Social Studies
We're traveling back in time to explore the first North American colonies and what life was like for early settlers. Students should also remember to keep studying for the upcoming states test!
Math
In Math this week, we're diving into algebra! Students are practicing how to combine and subtract like terms, as well as simplify and expand expressions. These skills build the foundation for solving equations later on.
Science
In Science this week, we continued our review of the scientific method. Students finished identifying variables and are now moving on to writing formal hypotheses. Next week, we will begin analyzing data and writing conclusions using CER (Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning). Please help remind your student to stay on top of homework, as several assignments have recently been turned in late.
Electives
KeyCode
Students have now learned all of the alphabet keys on the keyboard! That means there's no excuse for "chicken pecking" anymore—please encourage your child to practice correct typing at home. Along with keyboarding, we're also learning about online safety and will soon begin our computer vocabulary unit.
Ukulele
This week we added two new chords, Em and D, which allow students to expand their repertoire. We practiced songs like Lost Boy, Magic, and Without You, and students are showing great progress with mastering the strum patterns for each piece.
Musical Theater
Students have performed their scenes with their team for the class, and received positive feedback. Many learned new ways to perform better simply by watching what worked and what didn't work in these performances. Intent-to-go forms are due for the November trip to see Wicked: For Good, so Mrs. Galloway can reserve tickets.
Podcasting
Students are creating their very first episode based on their chosen theme! Along the way, they're also improving their workflow skills—learning how to download, upload, share, and edit files using WeVideo software.
Art
Students have been learning about four of the elements of art: line, shape, form, and value. They are using line drawing shading techniques to create the illusion of form (three-dimensional objects) on a flat surface. Next week they will start the culminating project for the unit where they will be asked to use all four elements in their artwork. They will also have the option to choose the project style from a non-objective piece or a zentangle piece. Advanced art students have the option of full choice.
Art Club Dues: $10 due Sept. 26
