Student Spotlight
Each week, we'll shine a spotlight on two students in order to get to know them a little better. This fun feature is a great way to celebrate our students and share their unique interests, hobbies, and personalities!
Ethan
Ethan says, "My favorite subject is English because I love to read. After school, I enjoy football, basketball, and spending time with my brother because they care about me. When I grow up, I hope to be an architect!"
Caysie
Caysie says, "My favorite subject is art because I love to color. After school, I enjoy gymnastics since I'm very flexible. When I grow up, I want to be a hairstylist!"
Don’t Forget!
7th grade will have 2 REWARD TRIPS each year! Qualifying for these reward trips will depend on 3 simple things:
Attendance – Maximum two tardies per class or 9 absences per semester.
Grades – No failing classes and meet Book Challenge expectations.
Behavior – No ISS or OSS, no more than 9 total behavior logs per semester.
Important Reminder
HAC is the Home Access Center where you can check your child's attendance and grades in real time. Remember to check HAC regularly to confirm that all work is completed and graded.
If you don't have your login info, please email the secretary at [Contact Information for Jodie Dueker] and request your individualized login info.

Academic Focus
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week in The Outsiders, students saw how things escalated between Johnny, Ponyboy, and the Socs at the park. After running away to avoid the cops, Johnny and Pony ended up becoming heroes! Students will now step into the role of reporters, writing their own newspaper article (with a headline!) about an event from the novel to publish in our class "newspaper." We also revealed the location of our October AR Reward Trip for students who complete their Book Challenge—The Outsiders Museum in Tulsa, OK!
Students should be reading every day!
Social Studies
Spain thought their mighty Armada could sink Queen Elizabeth and her Sea Dogs—but history had other plans! With Britain free to sail west, colonies in the Americas began to grow. Don’t forget—the First 13 States test is Friday, October 3rd!
Family Challenge: Ask your student to name as many of the 13 states as they can—can you beat their score?
Math
Students are solving algebraic equations with variables on the same side and equations written in factor form. These skills build a strong foundation for tackling more complex multi-step equations in the weeks ahead.
Science
We’re wrapping up writing conclusions and moving on to a three-day experiment using a ping pong ball! Students will put their science skills to the test as they observe, record, and analyze results.
Electives
KeyCode
We’ve started learning computer vocabulary and how computers work. Students will soon begin quizzes that count more than daily typing grades, so please keep an eye on HAC for updates!
Ukulele
This week we added two new chords, Em and D, which allow students to expand their repertoire. We practiced songs like Lost Boy, Magic, and Without You, and students are showing great progress with mastering the strum patterns for each piece.
Musical Theater
Students have performed their scenes with their team for the class, and received positive feedback. Many learned new ways to perform better simply by watching what worked and what didn’t work in these performances. Intent-to-go forms are due for the November trip to see Wicked: For Good, so Mrs. Galloway can reserve tickets.
Podcasting
Students are creating their very first episode based on their chosen theme! Along the way, they're also improving their workflow skills—learning how to download, upload, share, and edit files using WeVideo software.
Art
This week, students demonstrated their understanding of line, shape, form, and value through either a non-objective artwork or a zentangle piece. Ask them to show you their work and explain how they used these elements! Next week, we'll explore form in sculpture and discuss recycling in art. We welcome donations of cardboard boxes and empty toilet paper/paper towel rolls.
