Second Quarter Due Dates
Student Spotlight
Each week, we'll shine a spotlight on two students in order to get to know them a little better.
This fun feature is a great way to celebrate our students and share their unique interests, hobbies, and personalities!
Keyton Thompson
Keyton's favorite subject is Musical Theater because it has a great atmosphere and is always fun.
Outside of school, he enjoys playing soccer because every position matters and teamwork is key.
When he grows up, Keyton hopes to own his own restaurant or business.
Adelynn Moeller
Adelynn's favorite subject is English.
Outside of school, she enjoys playing soccer because she's good at it and loves the game!
When she grows up, Adelynn hopes to become a lawyer.
Don’t Forget!
7th grade will have 2 REWARD TRIPS each year! Qualifying for these reward trips will depend on 3 simple things:
Attendance – Maximum two tardies per class or 9 absences per semester.
Grades – No failing classes and meet Book Challenge expectations.
Behavior – No ISS or OSS, no more than 9 total behavior logs per semester.

Academic Focus
ELA
Students have finished reading The Outsiders and are preparing to watch the movie next week to compare and contrast it with the novel. Please make sure your student has returned their permission slip to watch the film. Our Quarter 1 Book Challenge has wrapped up, and we're already off and running for Quarter 2! Please take a moment to check the new due dates and ask your student about their independent reading book.
Students should be reading every day!
Social Studies
Students are continuing their journey through early American history and are now stepping ever closer to the American Revolution. Exciting events are unfolding as they learn about the causes that sparked the fight for independence!
Math
Students have been tackling real-world problems involving percent increase and decrease. They're also working on solving problems with quantities represented by a percent, converting between fractions and decimals, and exploring the concept of "percent of a percent."
Science
This week, we began our Physical Science unit, which focuses on Chemistry. So far, students have learned about the states of matter and phase changes. Next week, we'll explore physical and chemical properties and changes. One key physical property we'll focus on is density—students will even conduct a hands-on lab to discover how to find the density of different substances!
KeyCode
This week, students will be learning about the various buttons and ports on a computer—what they do and how they're used. There will be a quiz on Thursday, so students should be sure to review.
Electives
Ukulele:
This week we added two new chords, Em and D, which allow students to expand their repertoire. We practiced songs like Lost Boy, Magic, and Without You, and students are showing great progress with mastering the strum patterns for each piece.
Musical Theater:
Students have performed their scenes with their team for the class and received positive feedback. Many learned new ways to perform better simply by watching what worked and what didn't work in these performances. Intent-to-go forms are due for the November trip to see Wicked: For Good, so Mrs. Galloway can reserve tickets.
Podcasting:
Students are creating their very first episode based on their chosen theme! Along the way, they're also improving their workflow skills—learning how to download, upload, share, and edit files using WeVideo software.
Art:
This week, students made creative choices about their upcoming sculpture projects—deciding whether to make a spooky house or design their own unique idea, and whether it would be a sculpture in the round or a relief sculpture. They sketched their ideas, took measurements to meet size requirements, and began creating paper templates or prototypes. Next week, students will finish their prototypes and apply what they've learned to build their final sculptures. We can't wait to see their finished creations!
If you have any cardboard boxes or empty paper towel/toilet paper rolls to donate, please send them in with your student. These materials will help bring their sculptures to life!
