Student Spotlight
Each week, we'll shine a spotlight on two students in order to get to know them a little better. This fun feature is a great way to celebrate our students and share their unique interests, hobbies, and personalities!
Dolan Woolard Dolan's favorite class is all of them because he loves school! Outside of school, he enjoys playing basketball, especially defense, where he really shines. When he grows up, Dolan hopes to go pro in basketball. We're proud of his dedication both in the classroom and on the court!
Kaitlynn Tipling Kaitlynn's favorite subject is ELA because her teacher is kind and helpful. Outside of school, she loves singing and is always working to grow and be the best she can be. When she grows up, Kaitlynn wants to be a teacher herself! We're proud of her dedication and positive attitude.

Leader in Me Survey
Gravette Middle School parents, please take a few moments to give us feedback on our Leader in Me survey. This survey is part of a Measurable Results Assessment that helps us see a clear picture of our strengths and opportunities for growth, allowing us to move from guesswork to focused action.
Your perspective will directly help us measure and improve key areas like: student leadership, family engagement, our school climate, student empowerment, our support for academic mindsets, and life-readiness skills. The survey is open until Friday, November 28th. Please take a few minutes to share your input. Your voice is essential in helping us better serve students and families. Thank you for partnering with us! #LionPride #GravetteSchools
Important Reminder
7th grade will have 2 REWARD TRIPS each year! Qualifying for these reward trips will depend on 3 simple things:
Attendance – Maximum two tardies per class or 9 absences per semester.
Grades – No failing classes and meet Book Challenge expectations.
Behavior – No ISS or OSS, no more than 9 total behavior logs per semester.
7th Grade Academic Focus
ELA
We just began our new novel, Orbiting Jupiter, by Gary D. Schmidt and students are already diving into close reading, making inferences, and discussing themes like empathy, family, and second chances. We also wrapped up our mini-unit on Edgar Allan Poe, where students explored what makes his writing unique and analyzed The Raven for tone, mood, and poetic techniques.
Please remind your student to read independently every day—Book #3 for the Book Challenge is due on Tuesday.
Students should be reading every day!
Social Studies
Students have been learning about the Declaration of Independence—what it said, why it mattered, and why we call it the greatest breakup letter ever written. Now the big question is: in the words of King George III, what comes next? The newly formed United States must fight a war against a far better prepared opponent. Can they manage it? We'll explore the challenges and turning points of the Revolutionary War next.
KeyCode
Students have been learning how to create and interpret graphs using Google Sheets, including organizing data and choosing the best chart types. Next up, we'll begin our coding unit, where students will learn the basics of programming and apply problem-solving skills through hands-on activities.
Math
Students in Math are learning to identify and understand angle relationships created when a pair of parallel lines is intersected by one—or even two—transversals. They are practicing how to use these relationships to find missing angle measures and explain their reasoning.
Science
We are currently working on our Periodic Table Project, which serves as the capstone for our Atoms and Elements unit. Students are exploring how elements are organized and what makes each one unique. Next week, we will begin learning about molecules and compounds as we move into our next unit.
Electives
Ukulele: This week we added two new chords, Em and D, which allow students to expand their repertoire. We practiced songs like Lost Boy, Magic,* and Without You, and students are showing great progress with mastering the strum patterns for each piece.
Musical Theater: Students have performed their scenes with their team for the class, and received positive feedback. Many learned new ways to perform better simply by watching what worked and what didn't work in these performances. Intent-to-go forms are due for the November trip to see Wicked: For Good, so Mrs. Galloway can reserve tickets.
Podcasting: Students are creating their very first episode based on their chosen theme! Along the way, they're also improving their workflow skills—learning how to download, upload, share, and edit files using WeVideo software.
Art: Students finished sculptures and began working with texture in a foil relief project. Grades for the foil relief project will be posted before progress reports are sent home next week.
The art class is still collecting cardboard and paper towel/toilet paper rolls to use in our projects. Please send them with your student to help us out.
