February Kindness Challenge

Gravette Upper Elementary students of each grade gathered in the cafeteria at the end of last week to officially kick off a month of compassion and positive actions. In a presentation by Counselor Tina Robinson, the kids were introduced to the metaphor of Bucket Fillers versus Bucket Dippers. Students learned that everyone carries an โ€œinvisible bucketโ€ holding their good thoughts and feelings. Acts of kindness fill these buckets, while unkind actions dip from them.

Following the presentation, classes watched a launch video for a national event called โ€œThe Kindness Gamesโ€ and received an invitation to participate in an individual Kindness Challenge. They will collect points throughout the month by performing kind acts for teachers, classmates, and family members. Three winners from each grade will earn a prize bucket filled with treats.

Our staff is working on highlighting the positive stories happening in our hallways and classrooms. A Good News Video Station will open next week for students to record happy moments or messages of kindness. This station will be available during the Bingo and Board Game Night on Thursday, February 12. Parents and family members can stop by the station to record their own stories and take part in the challenge.

Other events this month include a door decorating contest by the Parent Teacher Organization and National Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17. National Random Acts of Kindness Day is observed to encourage simple gestures that spread joy. The video station and other activities that day will give our students a chance to lead with positivity.

Parents, ask your lion what they did for the Kindness Challenge today. We know the most powerful lessons begin at home. Thank you to all those who model what kindness looks like in action. Your example shines through in your children and helps build a stronger community for all.
