Read Across America Week started in 1998 as a national program to encourage children to spend more time with books. Dress-up days are for celebrating our love of books and a chance to wow our classmates. For our school celebration, we're doing all Dr. Suess-themed dress-up days!

Choose a 15 minute slot for your child to meet with a teacher and complete the placement screening. This process helps us understand your child's needs and ensures they are placed in the right classroom environment. Families can visit the photo booth to celebrate this milestone, meet our helpful staff, and ask questions.
Students currently in Glenn A. Duffy Elementary Pre-K skip the screening and are welcome to join us for photos. Handouts and resources are available at the office to help you prepare for the upcoming school year. Every purchase made at the fair helps our school earn rewards that go back into our classrooms. These funds allow us to buy new books for the school library and provide teachers with the extra resources they need to support student learning. The NED Show introduces a cartoon character who models three specific life skills: Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. Students will watch a performance that mixes humor and object lessons to show how persistence leads to personal success. This assembly provides a shared language for students and teachers to talk about resilience long after the show ends.

Kids from Glenn A. Duffy Elementary and Gravette Upper Elementary can play in a safe environment outside of school hours. Admission costs 20 dollars for the first child and 10 dollars for each sibling. These fees cover pizza and popcorn while children enjoy an optional neon painting session for an additional 15 dollars.

Kids stay safe when families know the procedures. Normal schedules continue for local town routes even when it snows. Rules remain in place for the whole day once limited service is announced in the morning. Families make the final choice on whether road conditions allow for school attendance. This year's edition uses a composition notebook design and offers optional sticker packs for $5. Children select their favorite stickers when the books arrive to customize their personal copies. These first graders aim to collect a valentine or postcard from all 50 states and from other nations to fill their world maps with hearts. Seeing mail arrive from different locations helps children understand that they are part of a large and welcoming community. The ceremony schedule is divided by grade level to ensure every student receives proper attention. First grade will begin at 11:30 AM, followed by kindergarten at 12:30 PM, and second grade at 1:30 PM. We ask that families RSVP in advance to ensure we can accommodate all guests within the gymnasium.

We're planning to erect a metal shade structure, which involves pouring concrete anchors, and to build six wooden planter boxes. Anyone with experience in metal and wood construction who is willing to donate their labor would be greatly appreciated!
Transforming this open area into a functional educational garden will provide our young Lions with new ways to explore nature and STEAM subjects. 🐾 Jenifer Davis shared photos from her class last week of Duffy joining the kids as a reward! The class earned the Golden Book Award after accumulating a high volume of Accelerated Reader points throughout the month of November. Earning this distinction requires consistent reading habits and comprehension checks that prove these young Lions are absorbing what they read. They earned the top spot and the privilege of spending time with Duffy in their classroom.

🚓 Local Community Police Departments, including Gravette, Highfill, and Bella Vista, came together today to share the Christmas cheer with a group of wonderful Gravette kids for the 10th Annual "Shop With a Cop."
The morning began in the Gravette Upper Elementary cafeteria, where Resource Officer Crane surprised everyone in a festive light-up holiday suit that immediately had the children laughing. After officers drew names to find their partners, the pairs boarded a bus for a police-escorted caravan to the store. The kids explored the aisles with their officers, choosing gifts that fit their interests, from cameras and electronics to new toys and favorite accessories.
Following the shopping trip, the group traveled to the Civic Center where officers served a lunch of pizza, juice, and cookies. This meal was generously donated by the Phillips 66 Gravette Station, a strong supporter of Gravette Schools.
The kids showed thoughtful, steady character throughout the day. Even with the excitement of the season, they approached each moment with gratitude, asking politely for a single cookie when more were offered. We are proud of the character these young Lions displayed and thankful for the community fundraisers and private donors who make this program possible. Thank you most of all to the officers who protect our community each day and still set aside time to share holiday cheer with kids and families. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
