๐Ÿฉ Last week, K-2 students at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary celebrated "Donuts with Duffy" after reaching their Accelerated Reader goals for the third nine weeks. These young readers got to enjoy a sweet treat and time with Duffy, GDE's favorite canine staff member.

The Accelerated Reader program helps students grow by setting individual targets for books read and mastered. Students practiced their reading daily to earn their marks for the grading period. The kids love getting time with Duffy, and Duffy loves all the attention.

We look forward to seeing more reading progress as we move further into the final nine weeks of the year. Reading every day builds the foundation for future success in every subject. Thank you to the families who support these reading habits at home, and thanks to Duffy for all his hard work. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿšœ Students in Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Caseyโ€™s PreK class explored the daily lives of farmers last week. They learned about the important chores required to care for animals and land.

The whole class practiced milking Bessie the cow and even made their own butter to taste test during snack time. These little lions got a first-hand look at where the food they see on their tables every day comes from! We appreciate Mrs. Hunter for sharing photos of the students' fun learning. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿš€ Kindergarten students at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary took a giant leap into the world of space exploration this week as they concluded an exciting lesson on NASA's most recent achievement. These young lions spent the past two weeks following the Artemis II mission and learning about our ongoing national project exploring the moon.

The Artemis II mission, which recently completed its historic journey, is significant because it's the last test flight before a scheduled manned mission on the surface in 2027. This upcoming Artemis III mission will place a crew of astronauts on the moon's south pole for a few weeks, where they will be locating, extracting, and bringing home lunar water ice. Scientists believe this ice could be a vital resource for a future moon base, providing H2O water for drinking, oxygen for breathable air, and even hydrogen rocket fuel for travel deeper into space.

We want to thank Library Media Specialist April Jones and our staff for inspiring our children to learn about the wonders of space exploration. Their work encourages our students to dream big and think about the future of discovery. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿฟ Last week students, parents, and neighbors gathered at the Event Center at Ozark Community Hospital for the 2026 Annual District Art Show! It was a circus-themed evening showcasing student creativity from K-12 and in many different forms.

Sculptures lined the tables and booths while student artwork covered the walls from floor to ceiling. The displays represented a full year of effort and practice by students across all four schools. High school volunteers in themed uniforms handed out popcorn and balloon animals. Others drew portraits for children at a old-timey portrait station while two student volunteers dressed as a Gravette lion and a circus performer executed stunts for the crowd.

It was a great turnout that provided important recognition for our student artists. Athletes and musicians frequently perform or compete throughout the year. This annual art show gives visual artists their own opportunity to share their progress with the community.

Thank you to the art teachers and staff who collaborated for months to organize this event. Thank you to Ozarks Community Hospital for providing the space, to Skylight Cinema in Bentonville for donating the popcorn, and to the adult volunteers who kept the event running smoothly (and the floors clear of popcorn kernels). We also appreciate the high school volunteers who ran the activities. But most of all, thank you to the student artists who prepared their work for everyone to see! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐ŸŒ Yesterday, Glenn A. Duffy Elementary students celebrated Earth Day with hands-on activities and environmental lessons led by the Gravette High School Environmental Club.

The younger students practiced conservation by planting their own flowers to take home, competing in sack races to recycling bins, and played cornhole games where high scores earned points for recycling. To learn about keeping our waterways clean, students raced to scoop plastic waste out of a water tub and dashed to bring them to a collection bin. They also enjoyed environmental scavenger hunts, coloring stations, and face painting.

It was a mild, cloudy afternoon with a comfortable temperature to appreciate the outdoor games. The older students led by example and demonstrated to the young lions how our every day choices impact the environment. These activities gave students practical steps to protect natural resources, be mindful of their impact, and clean up when they have the chance.

Thank you to the Gravette High School Environmental Club and their sponsor Mrs. Kedrowski for organizing these activities. We also appreciate the teachers who guided classes through the stations. Learning to care for our natural environment starts early, and these shared experiences help build lifelong habits. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿ† Congratulations to the winners of our Read Across America Week Tissue Box Contest at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary! The winners from each grade level included second grader Kaylee (not pictured), first grader Kash, and kindergartener Harper. They used their imagination to turn everyday tissue boxes into their favorite characters.

Kaylee designed her box based on Rani from the Dragon Girls book series, Kash built his based on Steve from the video game Minecraft, and Harper created hers based on Zoey from KPop Demon Hunters, a Netflix film and YouTube show. These three students earned a 50 dollar shopping spree at the Book Fair!

While some of these characters come from games, shows, and other media, the Book Fair is filled with books that connect to the worlds kids already love. Whether itโ€™s dragons, video games, or pop-inspired adventures, these familiar characters help spark excitement and draw students into reading. Thank you to every student who submitted a project and helped fill the library with functional art. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

โ˜• Mrs. Hunter and Mrs. Caseyโ€™s Pre-K class at Glenn Duffy Elementary celebrated learning the letter T with a classroom tea party yesterday. Students gathered around the table to enjoy tea, cookies, and muffins while putting their new alphabet lesson into practice.

Beyond just learning their letters, the children used this time to practice proper table etiquette, taking turns, and following directions. Sitting together for a shared meal helps these young students build essential social skills and learn how to show respect to their classmates in a group setting.

What a tea-riffic way to bring lessons to life! Thank you to Mrs. Hunter for sharing this engaging and memorable afternoon for our earliest learners. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿถ Glenn A. Duffy Elementary Pre-K students practiced the daily responsibilities of pet ownership by adopting plush animals and building custom homes for them.

Mrs. Hunter led her class through a week of learning about animal care. Students learned how to provide food, water, and shelter for their pets. This lesson helps children understand that caring for another requires consistent action and attention.

Thank you to Mrs. Hunter for sharing! When students practice these skills at school, they develop a greater awareness of the needs of others. These young Lions are building the habits they need to grow into helpful members of our community. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools
