🍿 Last week students, parents, and neighbors gathered at the Event Center at Ozark Community Hospital for the 2026 Annual District Art Show! It was a circus-themed evening showcasing student creativity from K-12 and in many different forms.
Sculptures lined the tables and booths while student artwork covered the walls from floor to ceiling. The displays represented a full year of effort and practice by students across all four schools. High school volunteers in themed uniforms handed out popcorn and balloon animals. Others drew portraits for children at a old-timey portrait station while two student volunteers dressed as a Gravette lion and a circus performer executed stunts for the crowd.
It was a great turnout that provided important recognition for our student artists. Athletes and musicians frequently perform or compete throughout the year. This annual art show gives visual artists their own opportunity to share their progress with the community.
Thank you to the art teachers and staff who collaborated for months to organize this event. Thank you to Ozarks Community Hospital for providing the space, to Skylight Cinema in Bentonville for donating the popcorn, and to the adult volunteers who kept the event running smoothly (and the floors clear of popcorn kernels). The Pride Awards are for recognizing students who consistently give their best, show respect, and demonstrate strong character. The Roar Award highlights high academic performance across all classes. The Lion Award is given to students who continue working through challenges and show steady progress.

📚 April is National Autism Awareness Month, and our library is sharing the moment with a new book display highlighting the experiences of neurodivergent individuals. Gravette Middle School students can explore new perspectives by diving into stories that offer a window into how others navigate the world.
The collection features several books, including Anything But Typical and Al Capone Does My Shirts. In the latter, readers meet Natalie Flanagan, a vulnerable and deeply affecting character. As Moose's older sister, she has autism. The novel shows how her button collection and need for routines help her feel safe in a confusing world. Her reactions reveal how strongly she feels and how much she depends on structure and patience.
The featured selection also includes The Someday Birds by Sally J. Pla and an insightful biography on animal behaviorist Temple Grandin. Reading stories centered on diverse voices helps students build empathy and understand different ways of thinking. Stop by the library to check out one of these titles and see the world from a different point of view. 🛡️ Our emergency response has been strengthened this week! Gravette Schools received a $4k+ grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas to enhance emergency preparedness.
The funding was used to purchase Stop the Bleed kits, which are now placed alongside existing medical equipment and in strategic, high traffic areas. Designated staff members are trained to use these tools to respond quickly in an emergency. These new supplies strengthens our secure environments for every child and ensures staff can take immediate action if a serious injury occurs.
Taking proactive steps for health and safety keeps our focus on student success. Thank you to the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas for supporting our schools and equipping our staff with practical tools. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

💧 Gravette Middle School Environmental Club students recently visited Beaver Water District to study local water conservation and the water cycle. They had a first-hand look at the drinking water treatment facility, and the massive pipe system that moves the water during treatment.
This tour was designed to help students think about how water usage impacts all of us. Hands-on activities allowed participants to picture a drop of water traveling through the cycle with demonstrations of each stage of the processes.
Witnessing the sheer scale of this facility for the first time changes how our students view the world, helping them realize exactly what it takes to maintain the clean water our community relies on every single day. 📖 Gravette Middle School students celebrated Read Across America last week with a series of contests and a surprise visit to Glenn A. Duffy Elementary. Contest winners included twelve students who won new books through a drawing and others who earned prizes in the poetry, bookmark design, and book character dress-up contests. One student even guessed the exact count of 351 bookworms to win the entire container of gummy worms.
Builders Club members paid a visit to elementary classrooms to read with younger students and gave them new books that they shared together. These students helped build excitement for reading with younger students. This was a powerful demonstration how reading connects everyone and a perfect chance to give back to the community. The Builders Club members serve as outstanding role models for younger lions and their peers alike.

❤️ Gravette Middle School Builders Club members recently created handmade Valentine cards for patients and staff at Ozark Community Hospital. Supplies for this heartfelt project were funded through profits from the club’s sponsored dances. During several RTI sessions, students designed and wrote each card to share a little extra kindness with their neighbors at the hospital.
The Builders Club raises its own funds through community events and reinvests those resources into local service projects. By organizing and leading these efforts, our Lions build leadership skills, creativity, and resourcefulness while helping the community.

🎮 Last week, Gravette Middle School students and staff leveled up their school spirit during Homecoming dress-up days leading up to Friday’s game.
Monday started the game with a warm-up round of pajamas and sweatpants for Casual Mode, followed by Tuesday’s Team Spirit display of jerseys and sports gear. Wednesday glitched the system with crazy hair and wild outfits for Wacky Wednesday, while Thursday saw students choose their player with video game and cartoon costumes. The week wrapped up on Friday as everyone powered up in orange and black for the Final Boss battle against the Tigers.

📣 Gravette Middle School cheer tryouts are opening soon for students currently in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
Mandatory Parent Meeting:

Students interested in joining the squad must attend one informational meeting during RTI on February 17 or 18 in Mrs. Bohannon's room. Attendance at the parent meeting on February 24 is required for eligibility. The tryout process concludes with a clinic on April 1 from 3:30 PM to 5:15 PM in the Volleyball Gym, leading into official tryouts on April 3 at 3:00 PM.
