🎖️ The Kiwanis Club of Bentonville and Bella Vista has awarded their Youth Excellence Award to Parker Pittman, a senior at Gravette High School. This honor recognizes her dedication to leadership, academics, and service throughout her time as a Lion.

The club celebrated its 40th Annual Youth Excellence Awards by partnering with schools across Benton County to highlight students who reach their goals while overcoming difficult circumstances. Parker has demonstrated a high level of achievement, persevering through personal adversity while maintaining a top GPA and high test scores. She was also recently honored with the Jim Lindsey Leadership Award, which you can read about here: https://www.gravetteschools.net/article/2817025.

We are excited to see Parker take these leadership skills to the University of Central Arkansas as she begins her journey toward a medical career, inspired by the doctors who helped her overcome a major surgery. Her story of determination and service reminds us all what individuals can achieve when they choose to invest in others. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🚀 Kindergarten students at Glenn A. Duffy Elementary took a giant leap into the world of space exploration this week as they concluded an exciting lesson on NASA's most recent achievement. These young lions spent the past two weeks following the Artemis II mission and learning about our ongoing national project exploring the moon.

The Artemis II mission, which recently completed its historic journey, is significant because it's the last test flight before a scheduled manned mission on the surface in 2027. This upcoming Artemis III mission will place a crew of astronauts on the moon's south pole for a few weeks, where they will be locating, extracting, and bringing home lunar water ice. Scientists believe this ice could be a vital resource for a future moon base, providing H2O water for drinking, oxygen for breathable air, and even hydrogen rocket fuel for travel deeper into space.

We want to thank Library Media Specialist April Jones and our staff for inspiring our children to learn about the wonders of space exploration. Their work encourages our students to dream big and think about the future of discovery. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🍿 Last week students, parents, and neighbors gathered at the Event Center at Ozark Community Hospital for the 2026 Annual District Art Show! It was a circus-themed evening showcasing student creativity from K-12 and in many different forms.

Sculptures lined the tables and booths while student artwork covered the walls from floor to ceiling. The displays represented a full year of effort and practice by students across all four schools. High school volunteers in themed uniforms handed out popcorn and balloon animals. Others drew portraits for children at a old-timey portrait station while two student volunteers dressed as a Gravette lion and a circus performer executed stunts for the crowd.

It was a great turnout that provided important recognition for our student artists. Athletes and musicians frequently perform or compete throughout the year. This annual art show gives visual artists their own opportunity to share their progress with the community.

Thank you to the art teachers and staff who collaborated for months to organize this event. Thank you to Ozark Community Hospital for providing the space, to Skylight Cinema in Bentonville for donating the popcorn, and to the adult volunteers who kept the event running smoothly (and the floors clear of popcorn kernels). We also appreciate the high school volunteers who ran the activities. But most of all, thank you to the student artists who prepared their work for everyone to see! 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🐟 Students in the Gravette High School Outdoor Pursuits class recently concluded a two-month-long conservation project by releasing hand-raised rainbow trout into the White River. As participants in the nationwide Trout in the Classroom program through Trout Unlimited, these students spent the semester acting as caretakers, conservationists, and biologists.

Just over two months ago, the class received a batch of tiny embryonic eggs and took on the responsibility of ensuring their survival. Daily tasks included feeding, maintaining filtration systems, and monitoring water quality. As the project progressed, students observed the trout develop through several distinct life stages, culminating with the release yesterday.

The trip gave students a break from the classroom and a chance to see the river for themselves. Spring had just returned to the Ozarks, with fresh leaves on the trees and clear water moving below the dam. Along the way, they made the drive through the hills and stopped at the visitor center to learn how Beaver Dam shapes the river system. It was an afternoon of fresh air, clear water, and time spent in the great outdoors. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🛡️ Our emergency response has been strengthened this week! Gravette Schools received a $4k+ grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas to enhance emergency preparedness.

The funding was used to purchase Stop the Bleed kits, which are now placed alongside existing medical equipment and in strategic, high traffic areas. 🏛️ Fifth grade students in the WIN enrichment group hosted Representative Hope Duke this morning to learn exactly how the legislative process works.

Library Media Specialist Brittany Gripe had been guiding the class tracking a real bill from the previous general session. Applying this knowledge, students are now drafting their own original bills. Representative Duke visited to answer questions and explain her direct experience in government. This was a first-hand experience applying classroom lessons with a state representative and gave these students a practical understanding of civic responsibility.

Thank you to Representative Duke for taking the time to speak with our class and encourage local civic engagement. A special thank you to Mrs. Gripe for organizing this visit and sharing these photos with us. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

💼 Gravette High School business students discovered a wide variety of career paths during a tour of the Walmart Home Office. This visit helped students see how many many different skills are needed within a single corporate environment.

Students visited several specialized areas including the large auditorium, the television studio, and the radio station. They met DJ Chris to hear how music and media reach stores across the country. The group also explored the 8th and Plate food court. This tour was an example of how a large company needs employees of all different backgrounds, from technology and media to food service and event production.

Seeing these professional environments helps students connect what they learn in school to their future goals. Thank you to Wal-Mart and the associates for sharing their time and insight with our lions. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🚗 Gravette High School juniors and seniors had the opportunity to see the hazards of distracted and impaired driving first-hand with virtual reality last week. This event was hosted by the International Save a Life Tour, a comprehensive safety program that visits schools and universities worldwide. Using immersive technology provided a novel and engaging way to demonstrate the real dangers of poor driving choices by letting students feel the immediate consequences of distractions in a controlled setting.

🎥 Check out the KNWA news coverage of the event here: https://www.nwahomepage.com/news/international-tour-to-teach-students-about-safe-driving-makes-stop-in-northwest-arkansas/

The simulation asked students to manage text messages arriving every 12 seconds while navigating city streets. Another simulation offered a glimpse into the disorientating effects of driving while impaired. These hands-on lessons help bridge the gap between hearing about safety and understanding the genuine risks of reckless driving. Senior Holden Jeffries shared that the experience reinforced the idea that no social media update is worth a life. By the end of the day, every junior and senior signed a pledge banner to commit to keeping our roads safe for everyone.

Thank you to the team at the International Save a Life Tour for helping to prepare our Lions for the road ahead with good choices and consideration for their neighbors. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

📖 Gravette Middle School students celebrated Read Across America last week with a series of contests and a surprise visit to Glenn A. Duffy Elementary. Contest winners included twelve students who won new books through a drawing and others who earned prizes in the poetry, bookmark design, and book character dress-up contests. One student even guessed the exact count of 351 bookworms to win the entire container of gummy worms.

Builders Club members paid a visit to elementary classrooms to read with younger students and gave them new books that they shared together. These students helped build excitement for reading with younger students. This was a powerful demonstration how reading connects everyone and a perfect chance to give back to the community. The Builders Club members serve as outstanding role models for younger lions and their peers alike.

It's wonderful to see our students use their imagination to connect with stories and support young lions. Congratulations to all our contest winners and thank you to everyone who made this week a success. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
