Donating blood is a practical service that strengthens the health of our region. The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks supplies all area hospitals, meaning every donation stays local to help neighbors in need. Donors will receive a free sweatshirt while supplies last and will be entered into a drawing for significant prizes as part of the 56-Day Challenge.
We invite eligible community members to reserve their time slot now. Students wishing to participate must pick up a consent form from Mrs. Hilger and return the signed document to her classroom before the event. Thank you to Mrs. Hilger for organizing this vital service project. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🚓 Local Community Police Departments, including Gravette, Highfill, and Bella Vista, came together today to share the Christmas cheer with a group of wonderful Gravette kids for the 10th Annual "Shop With a Cop."
The morning began in the Gravette Upper Elementary cafeteria, where Resource Officer Crane surprised everyone in a festive light-up holiday suit that immediately had the children laughing. After officers drew names to find their partners, the pairs boarded a bus for a police-escorted caravan to the store. The kids explored the aisles with their officers, choosing gifts that fit their interests, from cameras and electronics to new toys and favorite accessories.
Following the shopping trip, the group traveled to the Civic Center where officers served a lunch of pizza, juice, and cookies. This meal was generously donated by the Phillips 66 Gravette Station, a strong supporter of Gravette Schools.
The kids showed thoughtful, steady character throughout the day. Even with the excitement of the season, they approached each moment with gratitude, asking politely for a single cookie when more were offered. We are proud of the character these young Lions displayed and thankful for the community fundraisers and private donors who make this program possible. Thank you most of all to the officers who protect our community each day and still set aside time to share holiday cheer with kids and families. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
Dr. Sherry Whiteman led a session on the cardiovascular system, giving the group hands-on access to an Anatomage machine. This technology simulates a virtual cadaver, allowing the class to examine intricate anatomical details that are usually reserved for university settings. It provides a level of realism that textbooks simply cannot match.
The visit concluded with a knowledge competition where Ian Nelson, Lauryn Taylor, Amylia Vang, and James McNaughton secured the "heavyweight belt" by answering the most questions correctly. Thank you Mrs. Hilger and Mrs. Schaffer for coordinating this trip and helping our aspiring medical professionals see what lies ahead in their education. And thank you to Mrs. Hilger for sharing the story and photos from the trip!🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

Unlike technical agricultural contests, LDEs measure professional aptitude. To rank highly, students must demonstrate mastery in public speaking, critical thinking, and parliamentary procedure. Consistently performing at this level upholds the high standards of the Gravette program, which is recognized as a two-time 3-Star Rated Chapter by the National FFA Organization. The following students earned recognition for their performance:
🏅 Maddi Vollweider - 3rd Place - Prepared Public Speaking
🏅 Chase Gibson - 4th Place - Extemporaneous Speaking
🏅 Maddy Bassing - 4th Place - Prepared Public Speaking
🏅 Jarett Fort - 5th Place - Extemporaneous Speaking & 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Maddie Samuelson - 5th Place Overall - Ag Discussion
🏅 Owen Thurlo - 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Will Gillespie - 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Owen Merworth - 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Ava Brown - 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Colton Bell - 6th Place Team - Parliamentary Procedure
🏅 Brea Holt - 7th Place - Creed Speaking
🏅 Olivia Griffin - 10th Place - Creed Speaking
These results establish a competitive foundation for the season as the group prepares for next month's Sub-Area contest. They are far ahead of the curve developing skills that will serve them well in their futures. GO LIONS! 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

Following the ceremony, guests were invited to a breakfast served in the arena skybox overlooking the court. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who have served. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
"I'm just really proud of our students. We're proud of their hard work all year long, and while they aren't defined by one test score, it's nice to see them be so successful," said Alison Schaffer GHS Biology Teacher
Gravette is one of only 15 public high schools in the state to receive this performance-based reward. The high school's academic rank in the top 10% places it significantly ahead of the district's relative size.
“What I'm most proud of is the recognition that I know our staff deserves,” said Principal Shannon Mitchell, “I am proud of our school letter grade, but that’s not always a good representation of what actually happens in a school. This state recognition is really powerful. It's the first time we have received that.”
This award is part of the Arkansas School Recognition Program, which distributes financial awards for high student performance. The funds, designated for schools in the "Top 6-10% Performance" category, will be reinvested into GHS academic programs.
“We will make the decision as a staff on how that money is used,” explained Mitchell, “We'll have representatives from each tested area to make sure we're using it in a way that's fair and also to celebrate this success."
This recognition is a strong validation of direct effort in the daily work of our staff and students. Achieving a top-tier state ranking and leading the region in Biology shows our students mastery of complex material. Congratulations to our teachers for their high-level instruction and to our 9th and 10th graders for their disciplined effort. Go Lions! 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

🥇 Congratulations to senior Gwyneth Henzie, who earned two awards: First Place and the People's Choice Award. Her first-place illustration, created with colored pencil, depicts a young man split between a Roman soldier and a modern teen, featuring precise detail and bright blue and yellow shading.
🥈Senior Kristyn Henzie took Second Place with a colored pencil piece showing a woman firing a bow and arrow, noted for its convincing perspective and detailed hair.
🥉Third Place went to senior Katherine King for her symbolism-rich illustration, which uses deep reds and a disorienting perspective with a central staircase and exit sign.
🏅 Tenth-grader Katherine Quintana earned Fourth Place for her detailed illustration of a woman looking aside. The piece achieves complex shading by incorporating blues and purples into skin tones and texturing different materials like fabric, hair, and metal.
The competition, organized by art teacher Mollie Hendrick, showcased the technical skill and creativity developing within our art program. Recognition goes to all the young artists who participated. Congratulations to the winners! All of Gravette is looking forward to seeing your work displayed in the District Art Show next Spring. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
Our young lion learners heard facts about owls, including where they live, what they sound like, and what they eat. Mrs. Sciumbato also shared the story of how Sydney was rescued by the center after being hit by a car and breaking her wing.
This was a memorable opportunity for our children to learn about local wildlife and the importance of rehabilitation. We are grateful to Lynn Sciumbato and the Morning Star Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for sharing this experience with our students. And thanks to Mrs. Hall for sharing the story and photos! 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

Gravette agricultural education has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Build My Future NWA to support and enhance the Agricultural Mechanics program.
With this grant, we will be able to replace welding equipment, some of which has been in use for over 30 years. The funds will also be invested in other modern shop tools. We look forward to our students attending the annual Build My Future career fair this spring to connect with industry professionals.
A sincere thank you to Build My Future NWA for their support. And thanks to the Gravette FFA Chapter for sharing this great news on their Facebook page. Follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GravetteHSFFA 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

At the Walmart Museum, kids had a guided tour that focused on the company's core values. They learned how Sam Walton's foundational principles, like leadership through service, guided the business and continue to shape its culture.
Following the museum, the group took a tour with the Bentonville History Museum. They learned about the city's past, including how the town had to rebuild multiple times after fires, and saw historical details like signs of firearm use still visible on the pillars of a downtown building.
This field trip was a practical way for our kids to see how business principles, history, and community resilience all work together. Thank you to Mrs. Moots for sharing hands-on learning opportunities with students and photos from the trip! 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools

Student safety is a shared responsibility. The Gravette School District is grateful for the ongoing partnership with our students, families, and community to reaffirm our shared commitment to the well being of our kids. We urge motorists to be alert, slow down near school zones, and watch for children at bus stops.
Our students should all be well aware that they are expected to wait off the roadway, stay out of the "danger zone" (10 feet around the bus), and always wait for the driver's signal before moving to board or cross the street.
Thank you to all community drivers for helping to keep our students safe. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
⛰️ We've got some updates from Mr. Pittman's Outdoor Pursuits program at Gravette High School. Students recently spent time fishing at Lake Atalanta, practicing a little trap shooting, and floating the Elk River as part of their highly coveted educational excursions. As always, the real lesson is that when we approach the world hands-on, with curiosity and humility, learning can happen everywhere, all the time.
Earlier in the month, on October 1 and 2, the class visited Lake Atalanta in Rogers. As part of Arkansas's "Family and Community Fishing Program," this reservoir provides a great opportunity to practice casting from the boardwalks and learn about the types of fish stocked in our local lakes, including channel catfish and rainbow trout.
The class also participated in a trap shooting excursion. Trap shooting is a marksmanship discipline that involves shooting clay targets launched into the air. This activity is a practical way to reinforce firearm safety, focus, and responsibility under the guidance of trained instructors.
Most recently, the kids got the chance to pack up their bookbags and float the Elk River during a school day! Located in the beautiful Ozark mountains, this waterway is a popular route for recreational canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. Its waters stretch long and leisurely, winding through scenic bluffs, with a gentle final mile perfect for unwinding after a day of paddling (and disputes over who's responsible for the constant rightward drift). This trip gave our students hands-on experience navigating currents and practicing skills needed for a successful day on the water. We are grateful to our partners at Big Elk Floats for helping make this possible.
Gravette High School is proud to offer a program that goes beyond fun field trips to equip students with practical, lifelong skills that apply to our local environment. Thank you to Coach Pittman for sharing with the kids an appreciation for the natural world and the good fortune we have to live in Northwest Arkansas. 🦁🧡 #LionPride #GravetteSchools
