🐟 Students in the Gravette High School Outdoor Pursuits class recently concluded a two-month-long conservation project by releasing hand-raised rainbow trout into the White River. As participants in the nationwide Trout in the Classroom program through Trout Unlimited, these students spent the semester acting as caretakers, conservationists, and biologists.
Just over two months ago, the class received a batch of tiny embryonic eggs and took on the responsibility of ensuring their survival. Daily tasks included feeding, maintaining filtration systems, and monitoring water quality. As the project progressed, students observed the trout develop through several distinct life stages, culminating with the release yesterday.
The trip gave students a break from the classroom and a chance to see the river for themselves. Spring had just returned to the Ozarks, with fresh leaves on the trees and clear water moving below the dam. Along the way, they made the drive through the hills and stopped at the visitor center to learn how Beaver Dam shapes the river system. 🛡️ Our emergency response has been strengthened this week! Gravette Schools received a $4k+ grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas to enhance emergency preparedness.
The funding was used to purchase Stop the Bleed kits, which are now placed alongside existing medical equipment and in strategic, high traffic areas. Designated staff members are trained to use these tools to respond quickly in an emergency. These new supplies strengthens our secure environments for every child and ensures staff can take immediate action if a serious injury occurs.

🏛️ Fifth grade students in the WIN enrichment group hosted Representative Hope Duke this morning to learn exactly how the legislative process works.
Library Media Specialist Brittany Gripe had been guiding the class tracking a real bill from the previous general session. Applying this knowledge, students are now drafting their own original bills. Representative Duke visited to answer questions and explain her direct experience in government. This was a first-hand experience applying classroom lessons with a state representative and gave these students a practical understanding of civic responsibility.

💼 Gravette High School business students discovered a wide variety of career paths during a tour of the Walmart Home Office. This visit helped students see how many many different skills are needed within a single corporate environment.
Students visited several specialized areas including the large auditorium, the television studio, and the radio station. They met DJ Chris to hear how music and media reach stores across the country. The group also explored the 8th and Plate food court. This tour was an example of how a large company needs employees of all different backgrounds, from technology and media to food service and event production.

🚗 Gravette High School juniors and seniors had the opportunity to see the hazards of distracted and impaired driving first-hand with virtual reality last week. This event was hosted by the International Save a Life Tour, a comprehensive safety program that visits schools and universities worldwide. Using immersive technology provided a novel and engaging way to demonstrate the real dangers of poor driving choices by letting students feel the immediate consequences of distractions in a controlled setting.

📖 Gravette Middle School students celebrated Read Across America last week with a series of contests and a surprise visit to Glenn A. Duffy Elementary. Contest winners included twelve students who won new books through a drawing and others who earned prizes in the poetry, bookmark design, and book character dress-up contests. One student even guessed the exact count of 351 bookworms to win the entire container of gummy worms.
Builders Club members paid a visit to elementary classrooms to read with younger students and gave them new books that they shared together. These students helped build excitement for reading with younger students. This was a powerful demonstration how reading connects everyone and a perfect chance to give back to the community. The Builders Club members serve as outstanding role models for younger lions and their peers alike.

❤️ Gravette Middle School Builders Club members recently created handmade Valentine cards for patients and staff at Ozark Community Hospital. Supplies for this heartfelt project were funded through profits from the club’s sponsored dances. During several RTI sessions, students designed and wrote each card to share a little extra kindness with their neighbors at the hospital.
