๐ฌ Gravette Middle School students are getting real lab experience in Mr. Leach's classroom! Over the course of seven days, students completed a lab experiment to see how genetic traits are passed through generations. They observed fruit flies with red eyes becoming the dominant population over white-eyed fliesโsince the red-eyed flies could spot mates more easily and reproduce more successfully.
A small group of volunteers took it a step further with an additional seven-day lab, where they witnessed the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria! By growing bacterial populations in environments with and without antibiotics, students observed how quickly resistant strains can take over under constant pressure.
Our middle school scientists are learning the importance of effective observation, safety precautions, and how even the smallest changes can shape the future of living organisms. ๐ฆ๐งก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

If great educators shape the future, then Amy Metheny is making history every day. Her passion for teaching and commitment to her students is on another level, which is why the School Board, joined by Mr. Jones and Mr. Gravette, surprised her with the 'A Cut Above' award.
Amy brings the past to life in her classroom, making lessons fun and engaging. Students love her sense of humor and she has a way of connecting with kids that makes learning memorable. Principal Taos Jones said, โSheโs a real leader in our school, and we appreciate everything she does for our students.โ
Her award, a custom-crafted metal plaque, was designed and built in the Gravette High School Agricultural Science workshop by Mr. Malott and his class. They precisely cut and shape each piece with a plasma CNC table before welding and painting it by hand. The result is a home-grown Gravette keepsake that stands for both student craftsmanship and district-wide appreciation. With painted metal, this award could be around longer than the timespans covered in whole chapters of a history book!
Just like the metal of this plaque will last, so will the impact Amy Metheny's class on her students. The joy in the lessons she teaches and the connections she builds with her kids will stay with them long after theyโve closed their middle school textbooks for the last time. When she received the award, the School Board, along with Mr. Gravette, Principal Jones, end even her students took a moment to express their gratitude for all she does. Thank you, Amy, for being A Cut Above! ๐ฆ #LionPride
