๐Ÿฆ Our 5th graders had an unforgettable final day at Gravette Upper Elementary. To celebrate their big move to middle school, the kids enjoyed an action-packed sendoff. A massive shoutout to the Gravette Middle School Builders Club for stepping up to run the activity stands and giving our rising 6th graders such a warm welcome!

Students spent the morning competing in pickleball matches, playing four-way cross volleyball, facing one-another in frisbee golf, and getting their faces painted. A custom barrel smoker provided by the Bank of Gravette kept everyone fed with an end-of-year feast. To mark their time on campus, the rising sixth graders signed a new elevated garden box together. The afternoon also featured students diving down a giant slip-and-slide into a mud pit. After the outdoor games, parents joined the fifth graders and staff for a final gathering. Teachers shared their reflections on the academic year, speaking on the growth of the students and thanking parents for their support.

This class set a high standard for Gravette Upper Elementary. When the school board challenged them to improve reading proficiency, these students tracked their own progress, supported one another, and drove their reading scores to 81 percent. They stood confidently before district leaders to present those results themselves without needing adults to speak for them. We saw that same character during the Kindness Challenge when they became dedicated bucket fillers, actively looking for ways to support classmates. They also mentored younger students in the habits of leadership. Best of luck on your journey ahead to our future middle schoolers! We couldn't be more proud to see you advance. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐ŸŽจ Three Gravette fifth graders are advancing to the state-level competition after winning the Gravette American Legion Post 25 Drug Free Poster Contest: Micah, Daisey, and Reagan!

American Legion members Mark Russow and Mike Carnahan visited the school to present the awards for their original artwork centered on healthy, drug-free choices. The annual contest challenges fifth graders to create a visual message showing the harmful effects of drugs, encouraging commitment to healthy lifestyles. Each student designed an original poster on an 11 by 14 inch board using fewer than 14 words to convey their message.

Their winning entries will now travel to the state convention in Little Rock to be judged against designs from across Arkansas. State winners receive cash prizes up to $250, and all submitted artwork will be displayed at the Department Convention. We thank our local American Legion partners for providing this opportunity for our children to practice creative expression and focus on healthy habits. Congratulations Micah, Daisey, and Reagan. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿ• Bam! Pow! Zap! Did you hear that? It is the sound of the Gravette Upper Elementary School Lunch Heroes answering the call for School Lunch Hero Day! Witness and be amazed as our heroic cafeteria crusaders spring into action to fend off the seedy underbelly of empty bellies.

Wendy the Wise leads the charge with life-changing meal plans. The Cosmic Guardian, C.G. Skelton, uses supernatural veggie-cooking powers to fuel the youth. Tough Tina Harris wields her mighty baking sheet to defend against doughy or dry bread, while Dazzling Danielle and Daring Donna fly through the kitchen, supporting where they're needed with finesse!

School Lunch Hero Day is celebrated each year on the first Friday in May. The School Nutrition Association launched this observance in 2013 to appreciate the professionals who feed our students. Food service work deserves a great deal of respect and appreciation, because without them, basic needs go unmet and learning cannot happen.

Our food service team shows up long before the school bell rings to prep meals safely and efficiently. They handle long lines, accommodate unique needs, and greet students with kindness despite the ticking clock. This kind of steady, demanding work rarely gets the applause it requires, which makes today the perfect opportunity to express our sincere gratitude. Thank you, GUE Cafeteria Crew for all that you do! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

Students will spend the morning enjoying outdoor activities with their classmates before gathering for a special goodbye message from the staff. Parents are invited to attend the goodbye message in the cafeteria starting at 12:20 PM. Speeches begin around 12:30 PM to allow plenty of time for check-in and seating. ๐Ÿถ Gravette Upper Elementary students partnered with the Bella Vista Animal Shelter with a paws-itively wonderful project to encourage pet adoptions. Mrs. Knuckles guided the students in creating these purr-fect portraits to highlight animals that need to be rescued and rehabilitated. These student-created pieces will be displayed at the shelter and during public adoption events, like the weekend's "Bratfest" to help connect these animals with families.

Applying classroom skills to support a local organization shows how young leaders take ownership and help their community. Thank you to the students for using their time to give these animals a better chance at finding a safe place to live. ๐Ÿฟ Last week students, parents, and neighbors gathered at the Event Center at Ozark Community Hospital for the 2026 Annual District Art Show! It was a circus-themed evening showcasing student creativity from K-12 and in many different forms.

Sculptures lined the tables and booths while student artwork covered the walls from floor to ceiling. The displays represented a full year of effort and practice by students across all four schools. High school volunteers in themed uniforms handed out popcorn and balloon animals. Others drew portraits for children at a old-timey portrait station while two student volunteers dressed as a Gravette lion and a circus performer executed stunts for the crowd.

It was a great turnout that provided important recognition for our student artists. Athletes and musicians frequently perform or compete throughout the year. This annual art show gives visual artists their own opportunity to share their progress with the community.

Thank you to the art teachers and staff who collaborated for months to organize this event. Thank you to Ozarks Community Hospital for providing the space, to Skylight Cinema in Bentonville for donating the popcorn, and to the adult volunteers who kept the event running smoothly (and the floors clear of popcorn kernels). We also appreciate the high school volunteers who ran the activities. But most of all, thank you to the student artists who prepared their work for everyone to see! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools

๐Ÿ“š Breakfast and Books brought families together at Gravette Upper Elementary this past Tuesday morning to share a hot meal and explore the book fair. The event also featured the second annual Bake Sale and Basket Raffle to raise funds for the GUE Courtesy Committee.

๐Ÿฅง Our school assembly this month was a messy celebration of a major reading milestone! Students surpassed their target of 20,000 Lexia Units, finishing the challenge with over 25,000 units completed through daily focus and practice. As a reward for students crushing their goals, three teachers received a pie in the face!

The assembly also gave us a chance to highlight fifth-grade teacher Sharon Riggs and paraprofessional Amiee West who both earned Staff of the Month honors. Additionally, art teacher Morgan Knuckles received the Gravette School Board Cut Above Award. This recognition honors staff who show up with strong attendance, take positive action, and maintain a great attitude. Whether she is guiding students through creative projects, helping them build academic momentum, or leading the courtesy committee to support her peers, she consistently puts others first.

The assembly brought plenty of cheers as we gathered to recognize the hard work of our students and staff. Thank you to our educators for their daily effort and to our students for keeping their focus on reading. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿงก #LionPride #GravetteSchools
